Outreach in Our Community

Arcola Church has identified four schools very close to us - Independence High School, Brambleton Middle School, Creighton’s Corner Elementary School, and Moorefield Station Elementary School - where we focus our sharing and outreach efforts.  We work with the Parent Liaisons at these schools to identify needs and plan sharing events to support the families they serve.

Financial contributions help provide this ongoing partnership with local schools.

Give to Local Families in Need

Our recurring efforts include:

  • No-Sale Yard Sale
Once in early fall and once in early spring we hold a free clothing and household item distribution event; what we call our No-Sale Yard Sale. The parent liaisons invite the families they serve to sign up for a time to come to the church and “shop” for items they need – free of charge.  Click here for information about the next event: arcolachurch.org/nosaleyardsale
  • School Supply Donations
In the summer, we collect new school supplies for the kids at our focus schools. The school supply lists are collected from the schools, the supplies are donated in the summer, and then provided to the parent liaisons for distribution. We will share information about the school supply drive through our online announcements in the summertime.
  • Christmas Angel Tree
The parent liaisons at three local schools have families that need your help, and those families have made requests that are on our virtual Angel Tree. Requests include everything from underwear and coats to toys. Information about the families and gifts are made available in late October, gifts are collected at church through early December, then distributed by the parent liaisons.
  • Gift Card Distribution
Gift cards are collected throughout the year and provided to the parent liaisons for distribution to their supported families. These gift cards are used for food, clothing, toiletries, cleaning supplies, gas, etc. throughout the year.  You can make a contribution directly to the church and indicate “Parent Liaison Giving Tree” or send gift cards to Carole Salgado. $25 denominations preferred.

Various other opportunities arise throughout the year to support local families, either from the schools or through Shreveport Ridge Apartments. It could be to donate an item needed for a child or home, lunches for kids over spring break, or leading a fun activity or craft at a social event.  If you would like to know about opportunities to help out, signup to be an Arcola Angel

Other Ways to Serve

Arcola Church actively supports other missions throughout our community.

Children’s Ministry Supply Drives
Throughout the year our Children’s Ministry does various supply donation drives. Sometimes it is hairbrushes and toiletries, sometimes it is food-related, sometimes it’s underwear! If you have a child involved in our children’s ministry, look for an email from Anne Moriak with information on how you can help.

Dulles South Food Pantry
The Dulles South Food Pantry is a multi-faith emergency food pantry. They provide nutritious food, personal supplies and other services to those in need in Dulles South and the surrounding area. It is located in the Chapel at Arcola Church. Visit their web site to see how you can help: Dulles South Food Pantry

Homeless Shelter Dinner
The 3rd Sunday of each month, Arcola provides a lasagna dinner to the Homeless Shelter in Leesburg. If you would like to be a part of this effort, contact Gwen Hess.

Gospel Justice Group
Justice is who God is. Since we are a people who profess his gospel, it should be who we are as well. Join us on the third Thursday of every month as we explore how we can spread God's justice in a world full of injustice. This group meets monthly, and is open to all. Visit our events page for upcoming meetings.
