Serve Saturday

We're mobilizing the Arcola community through our first annual Serve Saturday, with activities throughout the day for EVERYONE of all ages to be in service to others, whether you're a runner or walker who wants to raise money for a local nonprofit, a crafter who can help welcome our new school staff neighbors, a lemonade stand enthusiast who wants to raise money for childhood cancer research, have willing hands or writing skills to help with employment preparation, or want to honor and welcome veterans as they arrive to visit the monuments in DC.
Employment Fair @ Arcola Church from 9am – 12pm (18+)
We are hosting an employment fair for unemployed and under employed people in our community. Volunteers are needed to assist with resume writing, interview skills, application completion, and dressing for an interview/job. Email Cecil Porter or Christina Pritchett for more information.
Run the Greenway @ the Dulles Greenway from 7:30 – 11:00am (All Ages)
Arcola is putting together a team of beginner, casual and experienced runners (or walkers) to participate in this event. Our team will be raising money to support Step Sisters, a local organization that provides practical support services for area patients battling breast cancer. Email Katie Schellhammer for more information.
“Alex’s Lemonade Stand” in a local neighborhood
Hours TBD (Families and elementary school age kids)
Arcola is partnering with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to hold a lemonade stand to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. This is a great way for families with children to participate together in a Serve Saturday activity. Email Rachel Kearse for more information.
Card Writing for the Staff of Elaine Thompson Elementary School
We will be providing all teachers and staff at the new Elaine Thompson Elementary School with a handwritten note and a small gift to welcome them to our community. These will be given to them in August when they start back to work. You can come to the church on Serve Saturday to do this, or you can do it from your home. Arcola will provide the notecards. Email Carole Salgado for more information.
Honor Flight Greeting
Arcola Church will be greeting 135 World War II veterans arriving on an Honor Flight at Dulles Airport at 10:00am on May 7. We will be presenting them with cards and singing patriotic songs to welcome and honor them. Email Jennifer (Worthington) O'Reilly for more information.
