New Group! A Discussion on Racism

“How do we, the people of the United Methodist Church in the Arlington District, lead with love around this pervasive and insidious issue of systemic racism?”

Our District Superintendent Sarah Calvert posed this question, and in response, we’re beginning with education and honest conversation. You’re invited to take part in a new virtual discussion group, using the book So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo, which will show us ways “race and racism…infect almost every aspect of American life.”

Thursdays, beginning June 18, at 7pm. Email Gwen Hess at   to join.

The book is available as an e-book, audiobook, hardcover, and paperback. We encourage you to support a local Black-owned bookstore, like Mahogany Books in Anacostia, or purchase via Amazon Smile to support Arcola Church. Don't worry if you don't have your book right away - the first week is a "get to know you" meeting!
