Arcola United Methodist Church is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and creative Communications Assistant to support our Director of Communications. In this part-time role, you'll help maintain our website, assist with all communication publications, manage event registrations and calendars, conduct volunteer background checks, and collaborate with church staff on a variety of communication initiatives. Position: Communications Assistant
Hours: 16 hours per week
Supervision: Reports directly to the Director of Communication who will provide annual evaluation of performance.
Job Summary: The Communications Assistant supports the Director of Communications by coordinating and maintaining the church's internal and external communications. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent customer service, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative ministry environment.

Churchwide:
● Support the church’s purpose of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world guided by compassion, servanthood and excellence
● Advance the church’s vision to help God’s people grow in wisdom and in wholeness
● Engage in the “five essential practices” of Christian life: worship, study, serve, give and share
Position Specific
● Maintain Arcola UMC website (updates, download weekly sermon, etc.)
● Assist with all communication publications (Newsletter, Pastor’s Note, Sunday emails, and church-wide emails), distributions and mailings.
● Maintain website calendar for church events
● Schedule posts and events on Facebook and Instagram through Meta Business Suite, as needed
● Upload pictures of events to Flickr
● Send projects to printers for printing
● Manage all Event Registration forms
● Handle all Constant Contact opt out requests and reinstatements
● Handle correspondence with Directors and anyone who may have questions or need assistance
● Work with Directors and Staff on all projects, as needed
● Support Director of Communications, as needed
● Send the Sunday Online Attendance for Website/Facebook every Monday to the Executive Director
● Conduct background checks on all volunteers and handle renewals for background checks
● Attend all staff meetings
Qualifications:
● Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading abilities.
● Experience managing website content using a content management system (CMS). Wordpress experience preferred.
● Working knowledge of email marketing platforms, such as Constant Contact.
● Familiarity with social media platforms, particularly Facebook/Meta Business Suite, and photo-sharing platforms such as Flickr.
● Experience coordinating print projects and working with outside vendors.
● Ability to manage calendars and church event registrations.
● Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
● Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
● Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with staff.
● Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion, including volunteer background check records.
● Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Salary 2026: $24.84/hour
