March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month

Posted by Molly Riedel on March 25, 2019

The term colorectal cancer is used to describe cancer of the colon or the rectum or both.

Did you know that colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women in the United States?

Some symptoms to look for:

  • A change in bowel habits
  • Persistent abdominal discomfort
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Weakness or fatigue

These symptoms can be related to many other health conditions, so it is best to check with your doctor for a thorough evaluation.  Sometimes there are no symptoms so they are recommending to get a colorectal cancer screening at 50 years old.

Colorectal cancer screening can include visual exams, stool tests, and a colonoscopy. Be an active advocate for your health- Be Proactive and Stay Healthy!!!
