Welcoming Committee
by Chris Leichliter

Scripture
"No one comes to the Father, but by me." -
John 14:6

Devotional
Sometimes we wonder if we're doing the right thing, or enough, to enter the Kingdom of God. But how do we know what's "right" or what's "enough?" In Exodus 12, God made it pretty clear to Moses and Aaron. He gave them specific instructions of what to do -- how to sacrifice the lamb, how to roast it, and how to use every part of it.

But so often God's voice isn't quite so clear to us today; sometimes the instructions are a bit hard to read and follow, and sometimes we wonder if we are even hearing from God, and it's easy to get impatient, or even discouraged to the point of giving up. And perhaps that's when we most need to remember that it is only through Christ the Son that we can come to God. It makes Christ sound like a gatekeeper, but maybe that's not really it. Maybe Jesus is the "welcoming committee" to something fuller and better.  And this is our way to out truth, our way, and our life to enter the many mansions He has prepared for us.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, speak to us in the still, quiet moments, so that we can hear our Savior's voice inviting us to do the work here on earth to be ready and worthy to enter Your kingdom.
