What We Are Building

So that we may continue fulfilling our church purpose of "making disciples for Jesus Christ", we have broken ground on a new addition to our existing Worship Center. Over 7,000 square feet of new space will provide 5 additional classrooms varying in size from 400 to over 700 square feet. Combined with existing classrooms, this will allow for all children’s Sunday School classes, preschool through fifth grade, to be held in the Worship Center, eliminating the need for elementary aged children to travel between buildings on Sunday mornings.  It will also allow for the classrooms in the Cross Building to be used for Adult Sunday School and the Chapel to be used for youth and outreach to the community. The additional classrooms will also provide for the future growth of Arcola Christian Preschool.

The hallmark of the new addition will be Ruth Hall, named in honor of Ruth Biggers and Ruth Dowden. Both of these women came to Arcola Church as new brides in the 1940's and have faithfully served the church and community for over 60 years. This space of over 1,500 square feet is designed to accommodate choir, band and drama rehearsals, as well as gatherings such as the Stations of the Cross, youth lock-ins, new member groups and community gatherings. Plans for Ruth Hall also will include much-needed office space and storage for the music team which will allow our Music Ministry to flourish as well as support numerous other ministries in the church and community.
