ACTS, “A Community That Serves” is Arcola United Methodist Church’s tool that allows you to use your Spiritual Gifts in our mission to “make disciples of Jesus Christ.” Service opportunities are grouped in several categories. Please complete the information at the top and put a check beside each number for the area of service in which you want to participate. Please complete separate forms for each adult in your household. When you are finished, click the Submit button.

Care Ministry:
1. Caring Cards - Help send out cards to our Arcola UMC family related to life events.
2. Homemade Comfort Items - Help make baby blankets, prayer shawls, or lap quilts or other items to provide comfort.
3. Meal Volunteer - Help church families in crisis or illness by providing meals.
4. Transportation Volunteer - Help church families in need of assistance by providing transportation to medical appointments or to church.
5. Emergency Childcare Volunteer - Help church families in crisis or illness by providing emergency childcare.
6. Household Chore Volunteer - Help church families in crisis or illness by providing help with household or yard chores.
7. Angels on Call Care Coordinator - Works with a team to facilitate and arrange for the delivery of services to Arcola church family members in need.
8. Events – Set-up - Help with set-up for special events at the church.
9. Events – Clean-up - Help with clean-up for special events at the church.10. Events – Food Preparation - Help with food preparation for special events at the church
11. Events – Food shopping - Help with food shopping for special events at the church.
12. Events – Decorating - Help with decorating for special events at the church.
13. Gingerbread Assembly - Help put the parts for the Gingerbread Houses together in kits. This takes place in early December of each year.
14. Prayer Team - Join and meet regularly with the prayer team who is responsible for praying for and caring for the many spiritual needs of our Arcola family.
Connection Team:
15. Greeter/Usher at 9:00 Worship - Serve on a rotating schedule, greeting congregation and visitors attending the 9:00 service. 16. Greeter/Usher at 10:30 Worship - Serve on a rotating schedule, greeting congregation and visitors attending the 10:30 service.
17. Hospitality Worker at 9:00 Service - Serve on a rotating schedule to set-up and clean-up refreshments provided by the congregation.
18. Hospitality Worker at 10:30 Service - Serve on a rotating schedule to set-up and clean-up refreshments provided by the congregation.
19. Refreshment Provider - 9:00 service — Provide refreshments on a rotating schedule for the 9:00 service.
20. Refreshment Provider - 10:30 Service — Provide refreshments on a rotating schedule for the 10:30 service.
21. New Member Group Helper - Serve as a childcare helper for the new member group. This can be for one or more than one night.
Communications Team:
22. Creative Communications Team - Graphic designers, calligraphers, illustrators, artists,or other visually creative people to assist with planning/ designing fliers, brochures, posters, advertisements, displays, etc. for special events.
Missions:
23. SOME (So Others Might Eat) - Prepare breakfast for hungry people in D.C. on the 1st Sunday and the 4th Wednesday of the month.
24. SOME (So Others Might Eat) - Donate money for hungry people in D.C.—it costs $140 to provide food for that day. 25. Interfaith Relief - Help collect and transport food to Leesburg.
26. Commonwealth Center - Assist with coordination of programs and delivery of gifts for children at Commonwealth Center in Stanton, VA at Christmas. Commonwealth Center is a facility for emotionally disturbed children.
27. Toys for Tots - Assist with transportation and distribution of toys during the holiday season.
28. Mexico Mission Trip - Travel to Rio Bravo, Mexico to help build casitas and a School near the town. June 22 – June 27, 2008. For Senior High Youth and Adults.
29. Middle School Mission Trip - Join our Middle School Youth and travel to Middleburg, VA to assist in mission work in Western Loudoun County July 27 – August 1, 2008.
30. Mississippi Mission Trip - Travel to Waveland, Mississippi and help in reconstructing and rebuilding homes in a town that was completely wiped out by Hurricane Katrina. Must be 18 years or older. LEARNING
Children’s Ministries
31. Sunday School Teacher at 9:00 Service - Teach a children’s Sunday school class during the school year, full-time or part- time. 32. Sunday School Teacher at 10:30 Service - Teach a children’s Sunday school class during the school year, full-time or part- time.
33. Sunday School Assistant Teacher at 9:00 service - Assist the lead teacher in a classroom, full-time or part-time.
34. Sunday School Assistant Teacher at 10:30 service - Assist the lead teacher in a classroom, full-time or part-time.
35. VBS Teacher or Helper - Participate as teacher of helper for Vacation Bible School, grades rising K-5.
36. VBS Decorations Director - Plan decorations for Vacation Bible School.
37. VBS Planning Committee - Plan Vacation Bible School ’08.
38. Children’s Missions - This group will help sponsor a different monthly activity or collection that will enable kids to express their gratitude with action.
39. Paid Child Care Provider (PM) - Care for children at the church on occasional weekday evenings.
Nursery Ministries:
40. Nursery Volunteer at 9:00 Service (Adults & youth)- Serve on rotating schedule and assist in Sunday morning nurseries for babies and toddlers. (Grades 8th and above).
41. Nursery Volunteer at 10:30 Service (Adults & youth) - Serve on rotating schedule and assist in Sunday morning nurseries for babies and toddlers. (Grades 8th and above).
42. Nursery Toy Guardian - Clean and sort nursery toys.
43. Linens Volunteer - Maintain and launder nursery linens for one month on rotating basis.
Youth Ministries:
44. Middle School Sunday School Teacher - Lead or assist the Middle School Youth Sunday School class during the school year at 10:30. 45. Senior High Sunday School Teacher - Lead or assist the Senior High Youth Sunday School class during the school year at 10:30. 46. Substitute Middle School Sunday School Teacher - Fill in as needed to lead or assist.
47. Substitute Senior High Sunday School Teacher- Fill in as needed to lead or assist.
48. Middle School Youth Volunteer - Assist with the Middle School Youth Group.
49. Senior High Youth Volunteer - Assist with the Senior High Youth Group.
PRAISING
50. Choir - Participate in a vocal choir to provide music for the 10:30 worship service Sept - June. Rehearse weekly on Thursday’s from 7:30-9:00pm. 51. 9:00 Band - Participate in an ensemble singer/instrumentalists to provide music for the 9:00 worship service. Rehearse weekly on Thursday’s from 7:30-9:00pm.
52. Youth Praise Band - Help with or participate in a band for 6th – 12th graders. Meet Thursday nights from 6:30 - 7:30.
53. Youth Choir - Help with or participate in a vocal group for 6th – 12th graders. Meets Sunday mornings from 9-10 am.
54. Instrumental Ensemble - Participate in an ensemble or band and/or orchestra. Instruments to provide music for worship or special services. Specify instrument.
55. Musical Volunteer - Participate or assist in musical for ages 9th grade through adult.
56. Advent Set-Up - Help hang greens, bow, banners, etc. prior to the 1st Sunday in Advent.
57. Communion Server 9:00 Worship Service - Help the pastor serve communion at the 9:00 Service.
58. Communion Server 10:30 Worship Service - Help the pastor serve communion at the 10:30 Service.
59. Homebound Communion Delivery - Deliver and serve communion to a homebound person once a month.
60. Worship Leader 9:00 Worship Service - Receive training and read the scripture during the 9:00 service; serve on a rotating schedule.
61. Worship Leader 10:30 Worship Service - Receive training and read the scripture during the 10:30 service; serve on a rotating schedule.
62. Drama - Perform dramatic readings or participate in a drama for worship services and/or special events.
63. Make-up & Costumes - Help with make-up & costumes of actors in church drama.
64. Banners - Help design and make seasonal church banners.
RESOURCING
65. Lawn Care - Serve on teams that help to mow and edge the church lawn. Team will serve on a rotating basis.
66. Lawn Care Team Captain - Manage one team of volunteers to mow and edge the lawn.
67. Lawn Equipment Maintenance - Help maintain/repair lawn equipment.
68. Flowerbeds/Shrubbery/Trees - Help trim shrubs and maintain flowerbeds and trees
69. Plumbing - Help with church and/or parsonage plumbing problems.
70. Church Cleaning Volunteer- Help with special church cleaning days.
71. Kitchen - Serve on teams that clean the kitchen on a periodic schedule.
72. General Repair - Help with simple, miscellaneous, general repairs at church and/or parsonage.
73. Snow Removal - Bring shovels and help clear snow from sidewalks.
74. Recycling Volunteer - Serve on a rotating schedule to take recyclable to the old Arcola Elementary School on Gum Spring Road.
OTHER
75. Softball - Join co-ed softball team for spring season.
